WORKSHOP ON GENDER EQUALITY PROTOCOL TO BE HELD IN BARBADOS

UN Women Executive Director, Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will deliver the feature address at a consultative workshop on Gender Equality Protocol for Magistrates and Judges. The workshop will be held on Monday October 31, 2016 at 2:30 pm at the Supreme Court in Bridgetown, Barbados.

This will be Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka’s first visit to the Caribbean and she will take the opportunity to engage with the judiciary of Barbados. She will also encourage members of the judiciary to sign on to the UN Women’s gender equality campaign titled “HeforShe” available at www.heforshe.org.

The workshop will be held by UN Women in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Judicial Officers (CAJO) and the judiciary of Barbados. The draft Gender Equality Protocol is one of the activities being undertaken by UN Women as part of the Judicial Reform and Institutional Strengthening (JURIST) Project and UN Women partnership agreement.

The objectives of the workshop are:

  • To raise awareness among judicial officers about the utility of the Gender Protocol;
  • To receive suggestions on its likely content; and
  • To identify key participants who will work with UN Women and CAJO in developing the Gender Protocol.
