The Judicial Reform and Institutional Strengthening (JURIST) Project will host two workshops in Antigua and Barbuda in support of the establishment of the Sexual Offences Model Court (SOMC).
The first workshop which will include Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Training will be held on November 9, 2018 and the second will be a Case Management Training on November 10, 2018. Both workshops will be held at the Jolly Beach Resort Hotel in Antigua and Barbuda.
The training will be delivered to justice sector stakeholders who work along the justice chain for sexual assaults and who also have the capacity to train others to use the case management and M&E tools developed by the JURIST Project for the SOMC.
These stakeholders include court staff, judicial officers, attorneys, police from the Special Victim’s Unit, medical professionals, prosecutors and other staff from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), representatives from the non-governmental organization (NGO) Women Against Rape (WAR), the Family and Social Services Division and the Directorate of Gender Affairs (DoGA).
The case management tools will facilitate the expeditious handling of sexual offence cases as well as institutionalise special protocols for the treatment of complainants and witnesses. Further, the M&E tool will be used to monitor and evaluate the SOMC’s performance using specific indicators.
The facilitators for the trainings are Ms. Ann Murray Brown, M&E Consultant and Ms. Melissa Simms, Legal Consultant.
