JURIST PROJECT PARTICIPATES IN BBA LAW CONFERENCE

The Judicial Reform and Institutional Strengthening (JURIST) Project is participating in the Barbados Bar Association’s (BBA) Weekend Law Conference which takes place from May 18-20, 2018 under the theme “Keep Up! Protecting People Property and the Rule of Law.” The Conference is sponsored in part by the JURIST Project.

The Conference is part of the BBA’s mandate “to promote information on legal subjects by lectures, discussions, books, correspondence with public bodies, individuals or otherwise.”

The Conference comprises a series of presentations and panel discussions of evolving areas of law and the need to adjust the focus of lawmakers, practitioners, procedures and processes to keep pace with this evolution.

The content of the Conference is sufficiently diverse to attract not just legal practitioners and students of the law, but corporations, corporate and financial service providers, medical practitioners, insurance executives, accountants and the public at large.

Invitations were also extended to all regional Bar Associations. There are presently 879 members of the BBA; 1,541 Attorneys-at-Law who are members of the Jamaica Bar Association; 2,283 Attorneys-at-Law who are members of the Trinidad and Tobago Law Association; and 374 members of the Bar Association of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

Additionally, by virtue of the BBA’s membership to the International Bar Association and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, invitations were also extended to the extra-regional Bar Associations.
