The Judicial Reform and Institutional Strengthening (JURIST) Project in Collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Judicial Officers (CAJO) and the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will host a joint Public Education and Engagement Working Group (PEEWG) meeting on January 17 and 20, 2020 at the CCJ’s Headquarters in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The JURIST Project is seeking to build the capacity of judicial officers, court staff and other stakeholders in developing public education and engagement programs for the judiciary.
As part of this initiative the JURIST Project has developed two training programs namely “Being Media Ready” and ” Designing and Implementing Public Education and Engagement Campaigns – A Training Plan for judicial stakeholders.”
It is anticipated that both training programs will be rolled out as JURIST/CAJO/CCJ training for regional judiciaries. In so doing, the sustainability of the intervention is assured, and the responsibility for its continuous delivery is vested in this leadership and developmental partnership. This aligns with the CCJs current strategic plan and is in accord with the CAJOs 2019-2021 mandate for regional judicial education.
In order for the intervention to be the best possible design for purpose, the training plans will be presented to an ‘in house’ JURIST/CAJO/CCJ PEEWG committee, starting with “Being Media Ready” for critique and re-shaping if necessary. The objective is to use this opportunity to ensure that what is presented to regional judiciaries, will provide a comprehensive framework for assisting them to be able to strategically, effectively, responsively and responsibly manage their relationships with all of their stakeholders through Being Media Ready.
At this meeting, the “Being Media Ready” training plan will be presented to the committee (on day 1), and then on the second day, the committee, working together with the consultant would in a systematic and structured way review the plan, proposing concrete and specific suggestions for its improvement (if necessary). The meeting outcome is intended to be a fleshed out and deliverable programme.
The committee is made up as follows: JURIST Project representatives; CCJ representatives (President plus two judges, Registrar, Communications, Protocol, Library, Legal Counsel); CAJO (Chairperson and his Judicial Education Assistant (JEA), the TT CAJO representative); a member of the media; and a NGO/CSO representative.
