Ms. Anika Gray, Gender Specialist and Regional Project Coordinator with the Judicial Reform and Institutional Strengthening (JURIST) Project, made a presentation at the Conference on “Gender Equality, Inclusive Governance and the Law: Aligned for a Better World” which was held from January 22-23, 2018 in Ottawa, Canada.
The Conference was held by the Canadian Association of International Development Professionals (CAIDP) in collaboration with the Canadian Council of International Law (CCIL).
She spoke about gender equality initiatives that the JURIST Project is undertaking, including the launches of the Gender Equality Protocols for Magistrates and Judges and the Model Guidelines for Sexual Offence Cases in the Caribbean Region.
The focus of the conference was on Delivering Canada’s Feminist Aid Policy (FIAP): Inclusive Governance, Innovation and Empowerment. The work that the JURIST Project is undertaking in the area of gender equality embraces the principles of FIAP.
Ms. Gray stressed that every initiative being considered by the JURIST Project must be considered through a gender lens. She also focused on the challenges and lessons learned in promoting behavioural change and ensuring sustainability for judicial reform initiatives that foster gender responsive judiciaries in the Caribbean.
